The need for individuals who have successfully completed accredited web design degree programs in Oregon and throughout the United States has grown significantly with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting an anticipated 20 percent growth in the industry over the next ten years. Those with the ability to design, create and modify websites earn wages starting at around $16 per hour, with the potential of earning as much as $53 per hour with experience and based on geographical location.
Oregon has the fourth highest number of web design positions in the country with an average hourly wage of $33. As of May 2013, there were 2,110 web design positions in the Portland area, earning an average annual salary of $70,140. Many web designers are self-employed, working on a contract basis with a variety of clients to create websites. The expected job growth and higher than average salary for those who complete accredited web design degree programs in Oregon presents excellent job opportunities for those individuals.

Digital Multimedia Communications
The Digital Media Communications Associate of Applied Science program at Clackamas Community College is designed to prepare students for positions in the growing industry of digital media productions and communications. Students will develop skills that will enable them to employ concepts and terminology demonstrating an understanding of two-dimensional design fundamentals for multimedia design and/or artistic projects, produce a final project that demonstrates their skills, analyze and discuss various multimedia works related to their impact on mass media, understand ethical and legal aspects of multimedia, including documentation and copyrights, complete professional, entry-level multimedia video projects using planning, production an editing tools and techniques, and create or contribute to digital multimedia projects that showcases skills in a variety of focus areas.
Web Design
The Web Design program prepares students for technical positions in web and graphic design. The program incorporates classes from computer science and art, including strong emphasis on computer graphics and design, as well as data communications theory, operating systems and web design. The program focuses on current industry standards. Students are proved cooperative work experience in a supervised, real-world position that enhances classroom learning. Upon completion, students will have skills and knowledge in current graphic design software used to capture or create images that may be used for a client’s website; HTML, CSS, JavaScript and current web editing technologies; tools used to create e-commerce applications; analyze client needs to create web applications to resolve problems; communicate in oral, written and graphic form; and ethical and professional responsibilities related to codes of conduct.

Linn Benton Community College offers 80 programs and certificates designed to prepare students for positions in their chosen field of study. Mt. Hood Community College provides students with more than 60 professional and technical programs, preparing them for positions in their chosen field of study. Computer Information Systems: Web Management/Webmaster
The Computer Information Systems Web Management/Webmaster Associate of Applied Science Degree Program builds on the core CIS program to provide training in web page creation, website management, entrepreneurship and client communications. Students are provided knowledge and skills in current techniques used to take advantage of current web page software and technology. Students are exposed to software such as Adobe Creative Suite in order to create interactive websites using a variety of scripting techniques. Upon completion students will be able to analyze website needs and propose appropriate solutions to clients; design and defend concepts in website design; create a five-page website designed for a client’s needs; design and implement scripting code for interactive functionality; design and implement forms designed to collect data and transmit that data via email or servers; design appropriate server programming to capture website data; create graphics and other images to enhance websites; understand advances in technology in order to understand how future trends may affect client needs; design websites to accommodate limitations and requirements of various computer platforms; and design websites that are able to optimize search engine algorithms.
Students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university should consult with that institution while also working with a CIS faculty advisor at Mt. Hood to be sure all prerequisites are met prior to completion of the program.

Southwestern Oregon Community College
Computer Information Systems
The Southwestern Oregon Community College is located within two miles of the Pacific Ocean and was formed by tax district election in May 1961. Enrollment has grown from an initial 815 students to around 10,000 each year. The college offers not only an excellent education, but cultural and athletic events as well. The first classes were held in a surplus US Navy facility until the current Coos Campus was completed, with the majority of the campus built between 1965 and 1969. A second phase that began in 1979 added expanded facilities for students. In 1994, a third building phase took place, adding a general classroom and new student services center. In 2011, a new campus on the northern end of Brookings was completed with updated technology and additional learning space.
Associate of Applied Science CIS: Digital Design
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Information Science with a concentration in Digital Design prepares students for the ever-changing field of digital design and media production. Students learn through an integrated curriculum that includes design principles and technical strategy. Upon completion, students are qualified for entry-level positions in many digital design fields including, but not limited to production designer, camera operator, visual effects production, multimedia producer, duplication, production assistant, graphic artist, art assistant, and web designer.
