Computer Information Technology, Associations of Applied Science (AAS)—Web Design Concentration

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Computer Information Technology degree series at Delgado Community College trains candidates in information systems development for businesses. Primary applications focus on preparation, development, execution, maintenance and administration plus daily operations of a networked system. Program goals include preparation for entry-level positions in a computer technology setting with a fundamental knowledge base of information systems and technology function. Four concentration areas are available for specialized interest: web design, application programming, systems analysis/design and I.T. support.

The web design emphasis gives students a strong foundation for enhanced website design and creation, with training in database and spreadsheet applications, HTML tags, XHTML additions, use of CSS for multiple-page formatting, navigation methods between pages, frames, tables, forms, photo editing and multimedia animations with flash. Graduates will have the appropriate knowledge base for transfer to a four-year degree program in computer information systems and web design.

A Bachelor of Arts in Website Development is also available as a continuation of the Associate in Arts program or as a stand-alone curriculum. The general elective requires 120 semester credits of general education and major components. The major class requirements are: Introduction to Media Arts, Expository Writing, Digital Illustration, Digital Imaging, Webpage Design and Development, Website Development with JavaScript, one legal course plus one animation or graphics course. An internship in media arts is also mandatory for graduation.
